Procedure
For this procedure,local anesthesia is applied to limit pain. A tiny needle is placed to find the mass to be biopsied, directed by X-ray, ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology. When the area of concern is pinpointed, a small amount of blue dye is infused to briefly check the spot, and a wire is secured into the tissue. The blue dye and wire will be utilized as a guide by the surgeon to find and eliminate the mass. Finally, extra pictures of the breast are caught to report for the specialist the relationship of the wire to the mass to be biopsied.
