Core biopsy is a method in which a needle is passed through the skin to take the cell or tissues as a sample of mass or lump which are further examined under a microscope for diagnosis of its abnormalities. The difference between core biopsy and FNAC is that Core biopsy is more invasive compared to FNAC.
A core biopsy involves local anaesthesia for the patient. In previous preparation, doctors recommend avoiding talcum powders, lotions, creams, perfumes, or deodorants nearby the operating area.
The skin of the operating area is done antiseptically. Then a small incision cut is performed on the skin above the lump. A needle is then inserted into the incision. While the tip of the needle reaches the examining area the sample is taken from the needle. The needle used in this procedure is an especially design hollow needle used. The needle then is removed with a collected sample.
This is the most effective and quick method for achieving evaluating and diagnosing lumps and masses.
