What is a mammogram?
A mammogram is a soft tissue X ray of the breast. Regular yearly mammogram is the most effective way to detect breast cancer early.
If I get mammogram, I won’t get breast cancer?
Mammograms do not prevent cancer. It only detects breast cancer early, thereby reducing deaths from breast cancer. Also when breast cancer is detected early, it may be possible to preserve the breast.
Is mammogram painful?
Breast will be compressed between X ray plates during the mammogram, so there will be some discomfort, but not pain.
Can mammogram cause breast cancer?
No. The radiation dose from a mammogram is very low, there is no scientific evidence to say that it causes cancer, but the benefit of early detection of breast cancer is huge.
